The frown line is often the first forehead wrinkle to appear. Also referred to as the glabella wrinkle, this vertical furrow gradually settles between the two eyebrows .
The lion’s wrinkle is an expression or mechanical wrinkle, as opposed to dynamic wrinkles, that is to say, it is formed and becomes visible during movement.
From the thirties, expression lines begin to appear. Repeated and/or intense contractions of the muscles of the upper part of the face (the corrugator muscle of the eyebrow and the procerus muscle) will cause the installation of inter eyebrow folds. Thus, each time you frown , an expression quite often performed daily, the lion’s wrinkle is affirmed.
With age and tissue transformations, these folds become more and more marked and remain visible even when the face is at rest. Indeed, the depletion of the extracellular matrix in hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin weakens the skin.
The glabella wrinkle gives a severe , worried and aged look to the face. In some patients, this wrinkle is revealed early following genetic predispositions, particularly intense expressiveness or an unbalanced lifestyle. Hence a possible indication for treatment with Botox Ⓡ in young subjects .
